When you get right down to it, a vacuum
cleaner by itself is of little use.
Until you attach a hose or a belt, all you have is a motor that creates
suction. It is the different tools that
attach to the motor housing that really get the job done. The different types of vacuum cleaners have
different accessories. An upright does
not necessarily need a hose to vacuum carpet, but a canister vac without a hose
is of little use.
By the same token,
backpack vacuum accessories will be different than those made for a Shop Vac combination
vacuum and leaf blower. Before deciding
which accessories to buy, make sure to check the owner’s manual for the vac.
One accessory that most all backpack
vacuums have in common is vacuum bags.
These bags, whether made of cloth or paper, keep the dust inside the
vacuum cleaner instead of exhausting it back out into the room.
Another common accessory that one needs to be
aware of is the filters, which can be as simple as a thin piece of foam or as
complex as High Efficiency Particulate Air filters (HEPA). These hepa filters remove dust and other
microscopic particles from the exhaust of the vacuum cleaner, resulting in
cleaner air as well as cleaner floors.
People are starting to realize that what gets out of a vacuum cleaner is
just as important as what stays in.
It’s
in the Bag
An integral part of the filtration system
of any bagged vacuum cleaner is the bag itself.
If a single or double layer paper bag is used, the dust is forced
through the fibers of the paper by the force of the incoming air from the
hose. While the particles that escape in
this manner are generally too small to be seen with the naked eye, they
evidence themselves by a fine layer of dust on the furniture.
While most discount stores will have
aftermarket bags for a variety of vacuums, it is important to ensure that the
replacement bags meet the same specifications as the original equipment
bags.
To make sure that only the best
bags are used on your ProTeam or Oreck vacuum cleaner, buy only from the
manufacturer or from a total accessory supplier like TotalVac (www.totalvac.com). Most manufacturers will also have a web site
where accessories can be purchased online.
Just as important as having the
right accessory for the right outfit is having the proper accessories for your
backpack vacuum cleaner. Always deal
with a supplier like TotalVac or the original equipment manufacturer and you
can’t go wrong.
